Position: Full time - Head Chef/Cafe Manager

About us:

The Base Café is located at the Cable Bay Adventure Park, 15 min north of the Nelson City centre. We pride ourselves on serving delicious coffee, freshly prepared meals from a A-la-carte menu, homemade pies, cabinet treats, and a selection of craft brews in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The café services a wide range of clients from locals and the Mountain biking regulars to those on Adventure Park tours and has grown significantly over the past few years. We are looking for a Café manager who can help continue to expand and grow the businesses. With a focus on great customer service, we aim to provide our patrons with a relaxed and friendly experience set in one of the top regional tourist attractions.

Position overview:

We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Café Head chef / Manager to lead our team at the Base Cafe.

The role mainly comprises running the day to day operations of the café, along with designing and delivering bespoke functions in coordination with our operations manager. The role encompasses mainly daytime work, no split shifts, and has the opportunity for some flexibility on working days

The ideal candidate will have a passion for hospitality, strong cooking skills, good business acumen, and the ability to create a positive and inspiring work environment. If you are a natural leader with a knack for customer service and a love for great food, coffee or a cheeky craft beer we want to hear from you!

 Responsibilities:

• Oversee day-to-day operations of the café, including staff management, customer service, and inventory control

•  Hands on chef requirements - plan, prep, cook , deliver

•  Design and deliver group functions

•  Hire, train, and supervise café staff, ensuring they deliver exceptional service and adhere to company standards

•  Have input into budgets and strategies to drive sales and increase profitability - including implementation

•  Create and maintain a welcoming and inviting atmosphere for customers

•  Manage inventory levels, order supplies, and monitor food and beverage costs in line with agreed budgets

•  Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and food hygiene standards

•  Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints in a professional and timely manner

•  Collaborate with the management team to develop and execute marketing and promotional activities

 Requirements:

•  Chef level cooking skills

•  Previous experience in a similar role within the hospitality industry

•  Must hold an alcohol Duty managers certificate or be willing to obtain one for the position

•  Strong leadership and interpersonal skills

•  Excellent communication and customer service abilities

•  Proven track record of achieving sales targets and managing budgets

•  Knowledge of food and beverage operations, including barista skills

•  Self motivated with ability to multi task

•  Familiarity with health and safety regulations and Food Control compliance requirements

•  Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays

•  A positive attitude and a passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences
