The Cable Bay Adventure Park is located less than 15 minutes from Nelson's City centre giving you more time for Adventure and less time spent travelling.

Our friendly staff can arrange for a free pick up and drop off from the Nelson i-site or other central Nelson points for groups of 2 or more. 



All our tours are great in the sun, and we get plenty of it in Nelson - but we also have a range of activities that suit when the weather isn't at it's best.

The Quad bike tours, Argo and Horse treks are all great fun in the rain - we have wet weather gear to keep you (relatively) dry and the licensed cafe is open every day

The World’s longest Flying Fox - set right here in Nelson. The one of a kind experience is an amazing scenic ride with a shot of adrenaline flying high above the forest canopy.

Your tour starts with a 4km ride in one of our 4-wheel drive vehicles, passing through pristine native forest while our guides entertain you with facts about the park’s diverse native environment, cultural aspects and fun stories.

The Skywire is set 300m above our base café and has incredible views of Cable and Delaware Bays, the western ranges and north towards D’urville island. One a clear day you can even see the snow-capped peak of Mount Taranaki.

Strapped securely into the ride with 5-point harnesses, the Skywire seats up to four “flyers” at a time, with around 800m of gravity assisted free-wheeling, reaching speeds of up to 100 kph, followed by 800m at a more leisurely pace - ideal for taking in the incredible scenery. Then you do it all again - BACKWARDS

The Skywire is weather dependant - we don't operate in heavy rain or high winds. Bookings not always essential but highly recommended in the busy summer season. See the online booking portal for current trip times and availability.

Combining excitement and adventure the guided quad bike tours are an unforgettable adventure where guests self drive the quad bikes through native forest settings, around areas of the farm and up to the magnificent costal views of the Cable Bay area.

A range of tours are available from 1 hour to 2.5 hours.
Riders must be a minimum of 16 years of age to drive. We have a number of passenger quad bikes for those under 16 (minimum age 5 years) and can be driven by either a guide, friend or parent.

Full instruction given and all drivers have a chance to hone their skills on the practice track prior to heading out on the tour. Please note that drivers must display a level of competence prior to being allowed on the tour - anyone not meeting a minimum level will only be able to take the tour as a passenger.

Farm Forest ride (allow 1.5 hours)

Designed to suit all abilities this tour follows the forest trails up to the Skywire before desending back to the farm and a trip around the flats.

Baywiew Circuit (allow 2.5 hours)

Our most popular ride - explore over 14km of beautiful forest trails. Ride past the Skywire then out to the stunning Bayview lookout which overlooks Delaware Bay, before descending back through the farm. Light refreshments included.

Horse Treks

Explore the Cable Bay Adventure Park at a more relaxed pace with a guided horse trek.
We have a range of treks to suit all abilities and our guides will ensure you are matched to a horse suitable for your size and ability.
The treks take in a variety of terrain  including meandering rivers and forest trails that emerge at points with breathtaking scenic views
Helmets provided. Please wear long pants, sturdy footwear and a warm layer of clothing
Max weight 120kg - weight limits vary for different horses. Minimum age 8 years (Pony rides available for under 8's)

Bayview or South Side Trips (allow 2.5 hours)

Starting out along farm trails you climb up well graded trails to view points overlooking the either the main native forest block within the park with distant views to the bay or the stunning Delaware Bay. Light refreshments provided - suitable for confident beginners and up.

Farm Forest Trip (allow 1 hour)

A great learners ride - this tour takes you around the flat areas of the farm, through the river and is paced appropriately for those new to horse riding (or those on a tighter time frame).

Skywire combo (allow up to 3 hours)

A new product - combine your Bayview horse trek with the famous Skywire ride. The ride takes you up to the Skywire on well graded forestry trails before you leave the horses and walk approximately 5 minutes up to the Skywire. The Skywire ride and light refreshments follow before you return to the horses and continue out to the stunning Bayview lookout before returning to the base - suitable for confident beginners and up.

We operate the largest Paintball theme park in Nelson.  Our Paintball site offers a huge variety of paintball action featuring forts, trenches, creeks and much more.

Cable Bay Adventure Park takes every necessary measure to ensure each individuals personal safety and we follow government guidelines in relation to health and safety for all visitors to our paintball site. 

All players receive a full safety briefing prior to combat commencing - this covers proper use of equipment with an emphasis on safety precautions. All equipment that players are required to wear is issued prior to the games commencing and include padded jackets, overalls and full face non fogging masks for extra protection. 

Does it hurt?

The referee staff ensure the correct standards of play are followed - Every paintball gun is checked for velocity before every game so that the paintballs are flying at less than 290 feet per second. At these speeds, the ball's impact is more startling than painful.

Do I need a reservation?

The paintball field is open to the Public 7 days a week year round but reservations are needed. We require a minimum of 8 players to make a game however smaller groups and individuals may be able to join with other groups. Teams are divided so they are evenly matched while allowing players who want to play together to do so. Private games available by reservation. 

Arrival times / Game length

You should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your game start time. Games generally end when the opposition flag is captured or when a pre arranged time is reached. Multiple games may be played in the time slot with most groups staying between 2 & 3 hours

What to bring

Please bring sturdy footwear and old clothing. You can bring your camera or phone also. You are welcome to bring your own camouflage or combat clothing (paintball marks wash out) We supply all protective gear and camouflage overalls

What is the terrain like?

Our paintball field is set in a small valley with a stream running through the middle. There are buildings, bushes and trees, dugouts and other structures within the field of play.

The Argo is an amphibious all terrain, 8 wheeled vehicle - designed to go, well basically anywhere. 

The Argo ride can be catered to each specific group - from a leisurely tour  to something a bit more thrilling. Our expert operators can take the Argo through bogs, spins and turns, across rivers and through the farm - especially fun if it has been wet!

Wet weather gear provided  - allow 20 minutes per trip

Base Café

Seats up to 100

Our main base Café has seating for 40 inside with a great indoor outdoor flow. Additional seating for up to another 60 people available on the deck area and can be set up with a Marquee either on the deck or in the grounds in the immediate vicinity to increase capacity.

Café and bar facilities along with numerous opportunities to experience the adventure park - bespoke itineraries available on request including team building or specific focus options.

Skywire Café

Seats up to 75

Situated 4km away and 300m metres higher in elevation than the base Café the Skywire Café is a venue with a difference. Stunning views and absolute privacy this venue is available for groups of up to 40 . Capacity can be extended with a Marquee to cater for up to 75 people total. 

Café  facilities can only be accessed by the private 4x4 road and transportation is included as a per person rate in the venue hire rate

Licensed Café

Our base Café is right next to Cable Bay road and a great spot to stop in for a coffee or something to eat. 

Open everyday 9am - 5pm we serve delicious Pomeroys Coffee and Teas and have a great selection of cabinet food and menu items.

Come and relax inside, on our deck or in the surrounding gardens.

We can also cater for large groups and functions by arrangement.

Wood Fired pizza's are now being served Friday and Saturday afternoons from 1pm till closing or we can fire the pizza's up on demand (allow 45 min for heating).

We are licensed with a selection of local and imported beers, wines and ciders and a wide variety of low and non alcoholic beverages.

We've got activities to suit everyone - even the kids.

Kids love feeding the tame eels or petting the animals. Walks and gentle rides around the river are suitable for the whole family and we've even got a box of toys to entertain the younger kids while you enyoy a cup of coffee or craft beer or local wine

Archery park

Located at the Cable Bay Adventure Park

Learn to shoot the longbow like Legolas and Robin Hood under professional supervision.

 Shoot with bow and arrow in our native forest archery range. Hunt a Dragon with the Dragon Hunt Archery Experience, get a team together for a game of Archery Battle or have a team-building activity with your company or community group on the archery practise range. Casual have-a-go at archery sessions are also available most days.

 No experience in archery is required and all archery gear is provided.

We are currently starting to build a network of Mountain Bike trails suitable from beginner all the way through to expert riders. The plans include on demand shuttles, Mountain and E Bike rentals, and riding access for those that want to ride the ups too. 

E-Bike self guided tours will allow you to experience the Adventure Park at your own pace.

Accommodation, self contained campervan parking, an expanded cafe facility, walking trails and new picnic areas are also in the works for summer late 2018/2019 and beyond.
